Dawn Brown (b. 1998) was raised in the time capsule that is Yucca Valley, CA in the high desert of southern California. There she spent the first 18 years developing her artistic abilities until she moved up north to attend college at Sonoma State University. There she is in her 4th year pursuing a BFA in Photography. Being from a small poor town adjacent to the tourist hubs Palm Springs and Joshua Tree California, Brown witnessed firsthand how photography and social media shape the world’s view on what is perceived as universal truth. As media tends to portray the desert as the forefront of beauty and opulence, Brown saw everyday how the reality of living in the high desert differed from the social sphere’s representation. Brown’s work explores an individual internal reality formed from years of living in the serene stoic isolation of the high desert.
For the past five years here, not only has she been training in the fine arts, but also exercising her musical talents in the group The Fizz Fuzz, in which she collaborates with her husband, Steve (Dandy) Brown. Their debuting album Palmyra is available everywhere as of March 6th, 2020. Order HERE
